THE DAILY ROUTE / MOUNT JULIET
Mount Juliet to Nashville by train: A practical WeGo Star commute guide
A commute from Mount Juliet does not have to mean driving all the way into downtown Nashville. The WeGo Star train connects Mount Juliet Station with Riverfront Station on weekday mornings and afternoons. Whether it works for you depends on three things: getting to the station, reaching your destination after the train, and finishing work in time for a return trip.
Start at Mount Juliet Station
Mount Juliet Station is at 22 East Division Street. WeGo lists approximately 255 parking spaces, and its station guide says parking at outlying Star stations is free. Before choosing a rental around a rail commute, map the trip from the home to the station at the hour you would actually leave. Include time to park and reach the platform.
Check both ends of your workday
The posted weekday timetable shows morning departures from Mount Juliet at 6:01, 6:56, and 7:45 a.m. They are scheduled to reach Riverfront at 6:35, 7:30, and 8:15 a.m. Afternoon trains leave Riverfront at 4:20, 5:10, and 5:55 p.m., reaching Mount Juliet at 4:50, 5:37, and 6:22 p.m. There is no regular Saturday, Sunday, or holiday service; WeGo announces any special-event trains separately. Check the schedule for your travel date before relying on these times.
An early evening finish may fit the train neatly. A job with unpredictable late hours needs another way home. Decide on that backup before making the Star your regular commute.
Plan the trip after Riverfront
Riverfront Station is at 108 First Avenue South, near Broadway in downtown Nashville. If your destination is farther away, WeGo provides connecting buses. The Route 93 Star West End Shuttle serves Riverfront and travels toward the Vanderbilt and Belmont areas; the Route 64 Star Downtown Shuttle serves other downtown stops. Look up the stop closest to your workplace and allow time for that last leg. Bus stops and routes can change during construction, so check WeGo’s alerts as well as the schedule.
Compare tickets with the days you will ride
WeGo’s posted Mount Juliet fares list a $4.75 advance-purchase one-ride ticket, a $43 ten-ride option, and a $158.50 31-day pass. Its fare table lists $5.25 for a one-ride ticket purchased at the station. Passes are available through QuickTicket, and WeGo also lists station ticket machines. Compare the options against your actual office days, especially if you work from home part of the week. Check current prices before buying because fares can change.
Try the full commute once
A trial workday gives you a better answer than a map alone. Leave from the neighborhood you are considering at your normal time. Drive to Mount Juliet Station, park, take the train, and make the connection to your destination. Then take the return trip at the time your workday usually ends. Note where you need a little extra time.
The Star can be a useful option when its hours match your routine. If you are considering a home in Mount Juliet, assess the entire door-to-door trip while you compare rentals.
